The Zenith El Primero Chronograph A386 was introduced in January of 1969, and c. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 36,000 vph (5Hz). It has a dry molybdenum-sulfide based lubrication system, and an embellished tungsten carbide weight segment. It includes a monometallic balance, a self-compensating flat balance spring, and an index regulator. Powered by the El Primero 3600 automatic high-frequency chronograph movement with 1/10th of a second chronograph function and a power reserve of 60 hours. It's rhodium plated, and it's constructed with 31 jewels, 135 components, an Incabloc anti-shock device, and a straight-line lever escapement. The CHRONOMASTER Original is crafted in a 38mm steel case in the same proportions as the A386, paired with the iconic tri-colour dial and a blue leather strap. Generally speaking, 2014-2018 had seen an explosion of interest in a wide variety of brands in the 10,000+ price bracket, the past couple of years saw many well heeled collectors fleeing back to the safe shores of stalwarts like Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and (of course) Rolex. Introduced in 1969, the Zenith El Primero Reference A386 sits amongst the most celebrated chronographs in watchmaking. ![]() From 1972 onwards the buckle had the new 'inverted star' logo, and the strap had the Zenith name as well. If you bought it in 1969-72, the original period buckle would be the one with the full 'Zenith' name on it, and the leather strap had the Zenith name and four-pointed star. It has a 50-hour power reserve at full wind, and the 12.8mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. A plain and unpadded, Zenith branded, black leather strap (19 mm). It has distinctive tri-color subsidiary dials, including a running seconds indicator at 9 o'clock, a 12-hour chronograph register at 6 o'clock, and there is a 30-miute totalizer at the three o'clock position. There is a perimeter tachymeter to 500 UPH, and inside on a plain black reserve is a 1/10th second ring. A quick set date aperture window is 4 and 5 o'clock. The original silver dial has applied steel faceted luminous baton indexes, skeletonized white baton hands with luminous inserts, and a red center chronograph hand with a rectangular luminous indicator around a minute/one-fifth second scale. The 37mm diameter solid two-body case, hooded lugs, and flat bezel are polished. The CHRONOMASTER Original is crafted in a 38mm steel case in the same proportions as the A386, paired with a black 'reverse panda' dial and a steel bracelet. There is a solid screw-down case back and round chronograph pushbuttons. It has the original integral stainless steel Gay Freres "ladder" bracelet with a deployant clasp, and a scratch resistant domed sapphire crystal. 1969 stainless steel Zenith El Primero Chronograph A386.
